Fine art flowers and photography - a one-day workshop
Bloomologie Flowers and Claire Graham Photography present a one-day workshop exploring fine art wedding flowers and photography at the Walled Nursery in Kent.
On Friday 7 June, 9.30am-4.30pm
Join us for a beautiful midsummer fine-art floral and photography workshop held at one of our favourite places, The Walled Nursery in Kent. In the impossibly pretty, Victorian Pelargonium House, we will explore the artistry and storytelling of wedding flowers, using the finest locally-sourced garden flowers and wild foliage.
Inspired by the history and planting within the exquisite setting of the walled garden and its 13 Victorian glasshouses, we will create wildly romantic bridal bouquets and Dutch Masters inspired floral arrangements, and learn how to style and photograph our work to it best possible light.
This workshop is designed for new and experienced florists as well as planners, stylists, creatives and dreamers that want to grow and expand their skill set for more flexibility and creativity in their work.
You will leave with new camera skills - whether it’s getting the most out of your camera phone, or learning about lighting, composition and styling - and a plethora of professional, fine-art images of your work that will be invaluable for your portfolio. As well as sharing her knowledge and style of photography, Claire Graham will also capture candid, natural images of you working during the day, and a headshot of you.
Ali from Bloomologie will share her own journey into floral artistry with you and guide you through her signature wild garden style of bouquet-making in the morning.
Claire Graham will share the story her camera and journey into photography, and give you some expert guidance to help you enhance your own images and to learn some new tips and tricks to get the most out of your camera phone .
After a delicious, relaxed lunch in the 19th century Vinery Cafe, eating food sourced from the one of the most intact Victorian kitchen gardens in the UK, we will create a still-life table centre using Bloomologie’s favourite foam-free method.
Then there will be time to style our arrangements and capture images of them in situ using our new skills, while Claire will also be on hand to support and capture some professional images, too.
This workshop will challenge and inspire you, and you’ll be surrounded by nature as well as a community of like-minded souls. It will help you focus on finding and suturing your own creative voice and style, and you will come away brimming with new ideas and skills.
Bloomologie was born out of my frustration that I couldn’t buy
the kind of flowers that I love to grow in my own garden, and at a lack of seasonality and localism within floristry - not to mention sustainability.
We use British seasonal flowers for a look that is relaxed, organic and wildly romantic.
“It’s all about following the flower - the organic form of the garden and the way a flower wants to grow. I hate forced, perfect floral arrangements, they’re the opposite of nature.”
Our work has been featured in Vogue, Style Me Pretty, Martha Weddings and Ruffled to name just a few.
About Claire Graham Photography
There’s nothing quite like a shaft of afternoon sunlight. The way it softens edges, adds glimmers of gold and warms everything it touches.
I’m something of a sunlight obsessive, and my photography style is heavily influenced by the play of light and shadow. I love to create airy, artistic images that are infused with a soft glow – using natural light adds a little bit of magic to my camera.
Claire has more than 10 years’ experience in fine art photography. Her work has been in Style Me Pretty Living, Magnolia Rouge, Wedding Sparrow, Flutter and many more.
About the walled nursery
This family-owned Victorian nursery is captivating from the moment you enter.
Find inspiration in the planted borders, explore the many plants that have been grown here from seed, discover the glasshouses filled with succulents, cacti and scented pelargoniums, and retreat to the treasure trove of a shop inside, where Emma and her team source hand-made pots, soaps, art and ceramics.
We’re sure you’ll find it hard to resist at least one or two plants to take away, while the backdrop is perfect for practicing your new-found photography skills with so many photo-opps!
